Archaeologists in action: Schanze Brohna in the focus of dangerous times!
Exciting news from Saxony: As part of the Interreg Projekt "Fragile inheritance/Kruche dziedzictWOW" , which runs from October 2024 to September 2027. Project partners are the State Office for Archeology Saxony and the Scientific University of Wroclaw. The aim is to examine selected monuments in detail, including the Bohna ski jump.
As one of the first measures, aerial photographs with drones are planned to collect comprehensive data on the condition of the monuments. Small -wide excavations are also carried out to analyze the monument substance more precisely. "We want to understand the keeping conditions of archaeological monuments more precisely and evaluate the degree of risk," explains a spokesman for the project.
challenges from climate change
The need for this project is underlined by the already noticeable effects of climate change. Extreme weather events such as dry periods, heavy rain and storms represent new challenges for archaeological sites. The agricultural use and the expansion of renewable energies are also increasing the monuments. Over 80 % of the archaeological ground monuments are located on land or forestry.
Another important aspect of the project is the development of a catalog of criteria. This is intended to include recommendations for action and protective measures for endangered monuments. Financial support comes from the European Union from the European Fund of Regional Development as part of the Interreg Poland-Saxony 2021-2027 cooperation program. This ensures that the valuable legacy of our region is not only preserved, but also made sustainable.
