Georg Brösan is honored as a volunteer at the village festival in Sollschwitz!

In a ceremonial setting, Georg Brösan, also known as “Stoppel”, was named “Volunteer of the Month” at this year's village festival in Sollschwitz. The award, which District Administrator Udo Witschas proudly presented, recognizes Brösan's tireless commitment to the community. He is known not only for his willingness to help and his open ear for residents, but also for connecting generations and actively seeking solutions to local challenges. His commitment also includes raising funds to promote community development. The village festival, a celebration of community and tradition, is one of the largest of its kind in and around Wittichenau and was particularly popular this year, as Wittichenau.de reports.

The three-day village festival was particularly lively on Sunday afternoon. Moderator Heiko Harig announced an impressive village bet: the mayor was supposed to bring 15 lumberjacks in full gear with chainsaws onto the stage within an hour. He was supported by five lumberjack wives who not only helped actively, but also brought 15 lumberjack steaks with them. The originally required number of 20 loggers was reduced because Sollschwitz is largely heated with gas. During the bet, atmospheric music in the festival tent put everyone in a good mood, and resident Grandma Gertrud was also a popular entertainment magnet with her stories. The bet was a funny and charming way to draw attention to local heating policy - a five meter high chimney served as a signal to bring the discussion about heating methods to Berlin. These actions have once again shown what brings the community in Sollschwitz together, as Sächsische.de reports.

Volunteering and support

Voluntary work is a mainstay of social, cultural and ecological life in Germany. Brösan's commitment fits seamlessly into the multitude of citizens who are committed to the common good. In 2021, 31 million people were already doing voluntary work in Germany. This unpaid work not only improves the quality of life, but also strengthens the social fabric in our communities. Funding for volunteers is crucial to financially supporting these important projects. Various programs at the federal, state and local levels are available to support non-profit organizations and volunteers in their initiatives, as can be found on Richtig-bewerbungen.de.

Applying for grants for volunteer work includes steps such as defining the project goal, selecting the appropriate funding program and creating a detailed project description and financial planning. Various documents such as the financing plan, proof of activity and the organization's statutes are also necessary. Without a doubt, it is not only the volunteers themselves who benefit from these programs, the community as a whole is also strengthened and benefits from a variety of activities that arise from this commitment.
