Chemnitz starts pilot project: sports fields open for recreational sports!
A new wind will blow in school sports in Chemnitz! An exciting pilot project will start at the beginning of the school year, which will see the opening of sports facilities at three schools in the city. This is not just about the lessons, but also about the valuable use of the sports areas afterwards for recreational sports. The city council has passed a resolution on this and the implementation is now being tested at the selected schools in order to evaluate possible further openings.
As Mayor Ralph Burghart is pleased to note, this project is of great importance for the neighborhoods. “Schools are not only places of learning, but also an important part of social life in our districts,” says Burghart. From August 11th until the end of the year, students and the entire population can use the ball sports area at the Marianne Brandt High School and the basketball field at the high school at Hartmannplatz. And the best thing about it: Registration is not necessary, so you can also do sports on the weekends.
Usage details
Not only the two sports facilities mentioned will be activated. An area on the southern Sonnenberg, which is part of the primary school on Jakobstrasse, is already partially accessible. The exact times and rules of use are clearly visible on the sports facilities. This means that citizens are well informed and can make optimal use of the opportunities.
The city of Chemnitz has numerous other play and sports areas to offer. If you would like to get an overview of the various sports options, you can find out more about the themed city map on the city website. This initiative could be a step in the right direction and shows that the city administration has a good hand when it comes to expanding leisure options for all citizens.
At the end of the year, the pilot project will be evaluated to see whether and how further opening of school sports facilities in Chemnitz can be realized. We are excited to see what impulses this project will provide and hope that the population will make active use of its offerings!
