Nevoigtstrasse closed: New adventure farm in the Chemnitz Zoo!
There's a lot going on in Chemnitz, especially in the zoo! The construction of an adventure farm is on the agenda here, a new attraction that will delight both young and old visitors. Construction work has already begun and will be carried out in two phases. The plan is to make it possible to experience endangered native domestic animal breeds such as Erzgebirge goats and saddle pigs up close. Visitors can even stroll through some of the enclosures and gain insights into agriculture in days gone by.
Completion of the first construction phase, which includes the dismantling of old facilities and the creation of new paths and shelters for the animals, is scheduled for the second quarter of 2025. The city of Chemnitz is investing a total of 350,000 euros in this context: 250,000 euros for the first part, and an additional 100,000 euros for new turnstiles, as tierpark-chemnitz.de reports. The second part of the project is being carried out by the Tierparkfreunde Chemnitz e. V., who continues to seek support.
Closure of Nevoigtstrasse
But the construction also brings limitations. Nevoigtstrasse will be closed from July 28th to probably August 22nd, 2025 due to the renewal of a wastewater connection. A diversion will be set up so that access to the car park is only possible via Zwickauer Straße. Accessibility to the zoo is maintained, but the disabled parking spaces are only accessible via Unritzstrasse. Pedestrians can still use the access to the zoo, as chemnitz.de emphasizes.
The entire undertaking is part of a master plan for the further development of the Chemnitz Zoo. The aim is to both increase the attractiveness of the park and to make an important contribution to the preservation of regional domestic animal breeds.
A celebration for the future
The start of construction was celebrated with a symbolic pitchfork tapping, at which the board of directors as well as many sponsors and supporters were present. With bright sunshine, the starting signal was given for a project that is intended to enrich Chemnitz and the surrounding area, confirms swg-chemnitz.de.
So if you would like to contribute something to the success of the adventure farm, you can find information online to support you. A good hand in both construction and citizen engagement is urgently needed! By the way, the summer season in the zoo has already begun - the zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., the wildlife gate until 6 p.m., so nothing should stand in the way of a visit to the animal world.
