Carolabrücke: dramatic dismantling completed - a new beginning for Dresden!

In the past few weeks, a lot has happened on the terrace bank in Dresden. The dismantling of the carol bridge has now been largely completed. The building contractor Hentschke Bau GmbH is now busy repairing the areas and traffic routes on the bank of the Elbe. The residents and visitors to the city can be happy, because the shipping channel was temporarily released on August 15, which is a small redemption for the countless leisure captains that make the Elbe unsafe.

But that's the beginning: until today, August 22nd, the last stalks and the exploratory of the Elbe sole are still running. A big goal is set: the terrace bank is to be released for traffic again in mid -September. However, some damage to footpaths, stairs, parking and traffic areas must also be recorded and prepared so that everything shines again in new splendor.

A real ray of hope for the transport infrastructure in Dresden is the decision of the city council to build the Carolabrücke as a replacement building. This should fit harmoniously into the environment and meet all traffic requirements. An accompanying body meets today, also on August 22nd to deal with the tender documents for planning the new bridge. An important step, because the publication of these documents is scheduled for September 4th.

The offers for the planning work can be submitted by the beginning of October. As expected, the surcharge for the planning is granted in early December. This commissioned four offices to develop concrete designs, which will then be presented and discussed to the public in May 2026.

The schedule

In parallel, the asphalt installation on the street and the marking of the bike paths begins from the end of August. On the Neustädter Elbe side, the bike path will be released at the end of August after completing the film nights, and a section of the Elbradweg should be usable by mid -October. Foot routes are partly equipped with new curbs and granite slabs, which contributes not only to beauty, but also to safety in traffic.

For the residents and visitors of the Saxon state capital, all of this is a reason to be happy. A lot is moving and the return to the usual quality of life on the banks of the Elbe is imminent!
