Safe bridge for the future: Loschwitzer Elbbrücke is repaired!

The Loschwitzer Elbbrücke, better known as the blue miracle, is currently enjoying a fundamental repair that is intended to guarantee security and stability for the next 30 years. The accompanying measures were launched on May 12, 2025, the first closures were set up on the popular crossing in order to carry out necessary measurements. Dresden.de reports that The city council has already provided a means in the current double budget about the bridge fund.

The Blasewitz bridge side is to be renovated from 2026, parallel to the current work, to keep future traffic restrictions as low as possible. Those responsible are with a good hand, because a quick progress is crucial to minimize the traffic load.

Safe traffic flow remains guaranteed

The good news for the commuters: The bridge remains open during the work for traffic. Motorized vehicles are moved to the middle of the bridge, while cyclists and public transport can continue to use the bridge. Pedestrians can also look forward to a safe crossing on the side of the Elbe, where protective devices offer additional security.

The repair work includes a hanging scaffolding under the bridge and a section of a section that protects both the environment from radiation rubble and preserves the building from harmful influences. The housing is carried out in seven single sections, with simultaneous work in two sections. All necessary preparations, including the approval applications and the scaffolding planning, have now been completed.

financing and funding

The award contracts for the renovation were awarded to Leonhard Weiss GmbH & Co. KG, with a contracting amount of around 17.5 million euros. It is gratifying that up to 50 percent of the construction costs are funded by the Free State of Saxony, which corresponds to a solid financial basis for the project.

The traffic situation around the blue miracle has changed significantly in recent years. The volume of traffic has dropped by 33 percent since 2009, from once 34,000 vehicles to 23,000. This is another indication that the space on the bridge is urgently needed. The discussion about alternative Elbe crossings, on the other hand, will be important from 2050 at the earliest, since until then there are unclear framework conditions. With these measures, Dresden shows that they have a good knack for the sustainable use of their infrastructures. The repair of the Loschwitzer Elbbrücke will not only be important for the current traffic situation, but also for the coming generations.
