Literature & History: Two exciting events in Annaberg-Buchholz!

In Annaberg-Buchholz there are two exciting events that are all about literature and history. On August 28, 2025, the city library invites you to a reading with the author Wiete Lenk, while on September 1, 2025 the "Saxon Klosterbuch" will be presented in the Erzhammer cultural center. These events not only promise interesting insights into Saxon culture, but also offer opportunities for stimulating conversations and encounters.

On Thursday, August 28th, the reading of Wiete Lenk will take place at 6:00 p.m. Lenk, who grew up in Dresden and previously worked as a stewardess, completed a master's degree for biographical and creative writing at the Alice Salomon University. Her novel "Between the times the snow shines" is about the granddaughter, who remembers the stories of her late grandfather Anselm and the stories of her grandmother Hanna Jo. The topics of the book range from the Saxon-Erzgebirgische manufacturer family history to loss and the power of memories. Entry to the reading is 5 euros (reduced 3 euros) and tickets are available via the tourist information Annaberg-Buchholz. The event is a great way to get to know the author personally and learn more about her inspiring works.

A look at the "Saxon Klosterbuch"

A week later, on Monday, September 1st, the presentation of the "Saxon Klosterbuch" will take place in the Erzhammer cultural center at 5:00 p.m. This event is part of the popular book Café series and offers the opportunity to discover the results of a fifteen-year research project. The monastery book documents medieval monasteries, pens and coming in Saxony and comprises over 2,000 pages as well as 1,000 illustrations and 120 location plans. Particularly noteworthy is the focus on the Annaberg Franciscan monastery, which was founded around 1500. The event is opened by Mayor Rolf Schmidt and offers speakers such as Christian Schuffels and Dr. Dirk Martin Mütze a platform to talk about the content. The conclusion is Dr. Gerald Diserer, who will ask the audience and encourage a discussion. Admission is free and no pre -registration is required, which makes this event particularly attractive.

The presentation is rounded off by the possibility of purchasing special prints of the monastery book on site. The organizer of this special series are the bookstore near St. Annen, the large district town of Annaberg-Buchholz, the Institute for Saxon History and Folklore as well as the Leipziger University publishing house. Both events represent an excellent opportunity to deal with the rich culture and history of Saxony and at the same time support local artists and authors.
