Demitz-Thumitz Youth Fire Department: Hydrant inspection and water supply secured!
There will be a lot of excitement in Demitz-Thumitz next week! On Saturday, September 6, 2025, the youth fire brigade of the volunteer fire department will start its regular hydrant check throughout the municipality. The fire brigade is particularly anticipatory and is already prepared for the following Saturday, September 13, 2025, when the inspection will continue in Wölkau, Pohla/Stacha and Medewitz. There may be short-term disruptions in the water supply, but the fire department ensures that everything runs smoothly. As Demitz-Thumitz reports, this is an important measure to ensure the functionality of the hydrants.
The youth fire brigade has already proven its reliability in the last few weeks. So nine courageous members undertook their first mission outside of their hometown and helped in Schlottwitz in the Müglitztal, where the consequences of a flood disaster had to be dealt with. Under the leadership of youth fire chief Mirko Jelinski and his deputy Michael Hantzsche, relief supplies and tools donated by citizens from Demitz-Thumitz were taken away. The operation also included cleaning the Schlottwitz Volunteer Fire Department's equipment house and removing mud and items to be washed. The return reports were touching - the young people reported uprooted trees and destroyed houses, and one of them described: "There is nothing left to see of the greenery, just mud and dirt everywhere," as the Sächsische holds on.
A team that sticks together
It's nice to see how the active fire department from Demitz-Thumitz has already helped in Schlottwitz and how the youth fire department not only learns through the various contacts of the active members how to be part of the community, but also how to stand together in difficult times. Three of the young people will soon join the active military and show that the flame of commitment in the fire department will be carried on. “We are ready to help again at any time if we are needed,” assure the members.
The fire hydrant project not only makes sense, but also creates a framework in which young people can actively learn - in a community that sticks together. One positive aspect should not be overlooked: team spirit is strengthened, and at the same time the young firefighters can make their contribution to the safety of our community. This form of community work can also be observed at other fire departments, such as in Westerstede, where the youth fire department also regularly checks and maintains hydrants. There, the hydrants were cleaned and their functionality was checked to ensure that everything would work smoothly in an emergency, as Westerstede Fire Department reports.
Overall, checking hydrants in Demitz-Thumitz is not just a routine task, but a community event that strengthens the solidarity and performance of the youth fire department. It turns out that the young members are not only willing to help, but also put their heart and soul into it. A big thank you goes out to everyone who takes part in these important actions and keeps our community safe and strong!
