Openness and transparency: Frankenthaler mayor presents historical report

There is a breath of fresh air in the city administration of Frankenthal! Today, on August 22, 2025, the mayor presented his vision of openness and transparency in an exciting city council meeting. For the first time in over a decade, the Audit Office's final and activity report was presented publicly. The mayor emphasized the need to create trust and take responsibility in order to strengthen relationships with citizens. As frankenthal.de reports, many of the points identified come from periods before his term in office, which makes the mayor's task of retrospectively working through these issues together with the city board all the more important.

The last few years haven't exactly been a walk in the park - characterized by pressure for change and high complexity due to crisis management, new legal requirements and staff fluctuation. But instead of giving in to resignation, the mayor and his team want to avoid future mistakes as much as possible through additional training and clearer processes. An electronic procurement management system was also introduced at the end of 2019. From January 2025 it will be binding for private contracts over €10,000 net. To support this, the city plans to create the staffing requirements by filling additional half-day positions by the end of 2024.

Future projects in focus

But that's not enough! The city has big plans: urban development, school renovations, new buildings, the expansion of daycare centers, digitalization, climate protection and municipal heat planning are at the top of the agenda. It is an ambitious program that sets the course for the future. “Mistakes will continue to happen in the future,” the mayor makes it unmistakably clear. However, this is not a sign of disinterest or a lack of competence, but rather part of a learning process that the city wants to actively shape. He notes positively that a culture of error should be promoted in order to avoid standstill and enable development.

The mayor also made an urgent appeal to politicians and the media: Critical questioning is important, but should always be done constructively. In these challenging times, respect for the employees who work under difficult conditions and are committed to the city's interests is of great importance.

With this transparent approach and a clear focus on the future, Frankenthal is taking the step towards modern and citizen-oriented administrative action. Stay tuned to see what the coming months will bring and how the city will develop!
