A highlight of this change is the photo stele, which has ensured automatic photo taking in the reporting system since July 24, 2025. It also checks whether the biometric criteria are met. “Großröhrsdorf is a real pioneer here,” says a spokesman for the residents’ registration office proudly. As if that weren't enough, the Bundesdruckerei is also planning to equip surrounding communities with this future-oriented technology.
Practical benefit for citizens
The photo station is ideal for all citizens, large and small, with a height of 1.20 meters or more. However, babies and children have to go to certified photo studios or drugstores to get the right photos. Anyone who would still like to take advantage of the opportunity to have a photo taken in the town hall can rely on the support of the staff at the residents' registration office.
The cost of creating a passport photo is 6.00 euros, which is set by law. Since 2024, there has been a practical solution for citizens who cannot appear in person at the town hall due to age or disabilities: they can even take their passport photos at home. However, this service must be coordinated in advance via the residents' registration office, which can be reached by telephone at 035952/283-44.
Flexibility in choosing the photographer
In addition, the citizens of Großröhrsdorf also have the option of using certified photographers or other agencies for digital passport photos, as long as they are able to create QR codes. This flexibility is a great plus for anyone who values personal preferences during a photo shoot.
