Cycling fun for kids: This is how they learn to ride safely!

This week in the picturesque community of Kubschütz it's all about the little adventurers on wheels. The long-awaited Vehicle Day will take place on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Little cyclists and those who want to become cyclists are encouraged to bring their tricycle, balance bike, bicycle or even scooter. Important: Safety is our top priority! Kubschütz municipality reminds you that wearing a bicycle helmet is essential to protect your head in the event of a fall.

But it's not just exciting on two wheels. Another highlight of the week awaits on Thursday, July 24, 2025: Doll's Pram Day. Here the little doll moms and doll dads can use the doll prams and doll children they brought with them and be a little creative. A nice occasion to stimulate children's imagination and encourage them to play together.

The introduction to later life as a cyclist

Learning to ride a bike is a big step for children. The right time for this depends on the individual development of the child. The ADAC recommends that children start practicing in so-called safe spaces such as garage forecourts or parking lot-like areas to give them security.

Experience with balance bikes or scooters is indeed a great advantage when it comes to training balance. Another note from the ADAC: Training wheels are not recommended as they hinder balance training and give a false sense of security. Children should learn to keep their balance when cornering - and this is best done without additional support devices.

Bicycle helmets and road safety

There are a few things to consider before little cyclists are allowed out on the road. Parents should ensure that their children always wear a helmet and wear appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes when cycling. Regular practice in areas with little traffic is particularly important in order to gain experience in road traffic. Independence in road traffic should only take place after the cycling test at school.

In order to find the right children's bike, there are some important features that should be considered when purchasing. The right size is crucial: Children should sit upright and be able to reach the floor with both feet. The tire size should also correspond to the child's height, for example 12-inch tires from a height of 90 cm. A good place to buy is a specialist dealer, where you can try out the bikes straight away. Amazon is also a well-known supplier where various children's bicycle helmets are available.

Patience and a relaxed approach are required for all parents who want to teach their child to ride a bike. This makes learning not only an important skill, but also a shared experience that promises a lot of fun!
