Music festival in September: Chemnitz celebrates with Dr. Seifert and talents!

A lot is happening in the cultural landscape of Chemnitz in September 2025! The municipal music school has an exciting program of events to offer that warmly invites music lovers and those interested. Particularly noteworthy is the music café Da Capo, which will take place on Thursday, September 4th at 3 p.m. in the Kraftwerk e.V. The entry fee of 7 euros not only includes participation in the conversation with Dr. Peter Seifert, the former mayor from 1993 to 2006, but also coffee and cake. Dr. Seifert will report on his life and his time in office - a real treat for history and politics enthusiasts. He is accompanied by Emi Suzuki and her students, who provide musical accompaniment. According to the information from Chemnitz.de has Dr. Seifert not only left his mark in politics, but was also honored with numerous awards, such as the Saxon Constitutional Medal.

But that's just the beginning! On Saturday, September 6th, the final concert of the exchange project with Oulu in Finland will be celebrated. From 6 p.m., the guitar orchestra of the Chemnitz Municipal Music School and the guitar ensemble of the Oulu Conservatory will perform in the auditorium of the BSZ for Technology I. Admission is free, although reservations by email are recommended. The premiere of the piece “Winds” by Janko Rašeta, which will be presented as part of this concert, deserves special attention. A reunion in Oulu is already planned for 2026 - the commitment to cross-border musical collaboration is strong!

Various concerts in September

The musical offering continues with the family concert “KUNTERBUNT” on Friday, September 26th, at 5 p.m. in the church of the rehabilitation center. Admission here is free and donations are requested. Students from the municipal music school present a varied program that is suitable for young and old.

Another highlight of the month is the final concert of the 29th Werner Richter Competition for accordion and bandoneon on Saturday, September 27th, at 5 p.m. in the Municipal Music School. Here, listeners can look forward to Saxon talents presenting the art of accordion and bandoneon playing. Admission is also free and actively promotes amateur music.

Special commemorative events

The kaleidoscope concert “Against Forgetting” will take place on Sunday, September 28th. At 5 p.m. there will be music and reading in honor of Justin Sonder, a survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp, in the concert hall of the Municipal Music School. Admission costs 10 euros, reduced price 5 euros - tickets are available at the box office. This event commemorates the dark chapters of history and is sure to touch many.

The September program concludes with a concert with Ukrainian students on Tuesday, September 30th, at 5 p.m. Here, traditional Ukrainian sounds and international melodies from rock, pop and jazz are offered a space. With free admission, the concert is part of the Intercultural Weeks, which wonderfully underlines the diversity of the music scene in Chemnitz.

The Chemnitz Municipal Music School has set a real highlight in the region with its exciting and varied program for September 2025.
