New hockey artificial turf pitch: celebratory opening in the Poststadion!
There will soon be a new hotspot for sports enthusiasts in Chemnitz! The new artificial turf hockey pitch in the Poststadion sports park will be ceremoniously opened on August 30th at 4 p.m. Mayor Sven Schulze and Paul Dickfeld, chairman of the Postsportverein Chemnitz e. V., will carry out this important opening together. An event that is not only intended to promote sport in the region, but also to benefit children and young people.
The new building replaces the previous hard court and allows year-round use. Thanks to this new facility, schools and daycare centers can also use the area in addition to the club. “This is a big step in promoting organized sport,” says Paul Dickfeld. The postal sports club, which has a total of 408 members - 151 of whom are children and young people - currently offers eight sports, with hockey being the department with the most active members (175).
Financial details of the project
But how much does the new building actually cost? The total costs amount to 2.43 million euros, of which the Free State of Saxony covers 1.165 million euros. The city of Chemnitz is contributing 1.032 million euros, 100,000 euros more than originally planned. In addition, additional costs of around 85,000 euros were incurred for tree felling for traffic safety and around 15,000 euros for the installation of a modern display board and its foundations. Here the city shows that sport is close to its heart.
“We have a good knack for developing the sports infrastructure in Chemnitz,” said Schulze. The cooperation with the postal sports club is also intended to promote the sporting development of children and young people. The opening of the hockey artificial turf pitch is not only an advantage for the members of the club, but also an enrichment for the entire community.
Future of sport in Chemnitz
With the new artificial turf pitch, Chemnitz and the Postsportverein are setting an example for the future of sport in the region. The investments are aimed not only at improving the facilities, but also at actively integrating sport into social life. The field will not only be used for training, but also for competitions, which should give hockey a new boost in Chemnitz.
So be there on August 30th when it says: “Sports event in the Poststadion!” Swing your sticks and look forward to a lively community that will happily take advantage of the new possibilities of hockey.
