Dresden is preparing for a big Velorace: closures and restrictions!

The city of Dresden is looking forward to an exciting weekend full of sporting events, as both a children's and youth race and the big Velorace will take place on August 9th and 10th, 2025. These events attract numerous cycling enthusiasts and give the city a lively atmosphere. But despite all the anticipation, this also brings with it some traffic restrictions that Dresden citizens should take note of.

On Saturday, August 9, 2025, the youngest cyclists can put their skills to the test in the children's and youth race. The following Sunday, August 10, 2025, belongs to the great athletes at the Velorace, which will close the entire race track in the city from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. On this day, the race track will be completely closed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., which is particularly important for drivers and pedestrians.

Traffic restrictions in the city center

In order to ensure that the events run smoothly, the Terrassenufer will be closed from Friday, August 8, 2025 at 12 p.m. This closure will remain in place until Sunday August 10th at 9pm. The circuit for the Velorace runs through several streets including:

  • Terrassenufer
  • Devrientstraße
  • Könneritzstraße (Teilabschnitt komplett gesperrt)
  • Ammonstraße
  • Wiener Straße
  • Gellertstraße
  • Lennéplatz
  • Straßburger Platz
  • Stübelallee
  • Fetscherstraße (halbseitige Sperrung)
  • Goetheallee
  • Sachsenplatz

The city recommends avoiding non-essential trips to the city center on Sundays between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. Pedestrians must be prepared for limited opportunities to cross the cycle race course and know that many traffic lights will be deactivated during the event. In addition, increased attention is required at stops and when crossing tram tracks.

Further information for citizens

For residents and commuters, this also means that they should prepare for changes and restrictions in bus and tram traffic on the Sunday of the event. Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG (DVB) will provide timely information about the timetable changes in order to make the necessary information available to residents.

So pay attention and plan your rides accordingly to experience some of the joy of cycling and community as the city lights up for a weekend of bike racing. Stay sporty!

Further details and current changes can be found on the official website of the city of Dresden dresden.de. This means you are well informed and can enjoy the events to the fullest!
