Bahnhofstrasse in Annaberg-Buchholz: Modernization has begun!
Something is happening in Annaberg-Buchholz! The starting signal for the modernization of Bahnhofstrasse was given on August 14, 2025. This project not only promises a better overall picture, but also a significant improvement in transport connections and the quality of stay for everyone who visits or lives in the city. Loud annaberg-buchholz.de The entire measure will be completed by the end of July 2026, with the first construction phase expected to run until December 19, 2025.
What exactly is being built now? The first phase of construction includes road and sidewalk construction from the ASG to the entrance to the former OPEW site, and during this time the affected area will be completely closed. But don't worry: the parking garage on Scheibner Straße remains easily accessible via the Schlösselbrücke and Buchholzer Straße.
Detours and new routes
The inner city ring will be rerouted via Talstrasse, Strasse der Unit, Bärensteiner Strasse and the B95. Good news for cyclists: A new cycle path will be created to the right of the road in the arch of the Schlössel Bridge. A retaining wall will also be built parallel to the new footpath and cycle path. This can also reduce the pressure on traffic routes, which is particularly important in times of high traffic.
But that's not all: the existing bus stop in front of the cell phone shop will be converted to be barrier-free, and a crossing aid will be installed between the stop and the bridge to increase pedestrian safety.
New shopping opportunities in sight
And who would have thought? As part of the modernization, a new EDEKA store will also be developed, which will be connected via Bahnhofstrasse. The market is scheduled to open next year. Before the current construction work is completed, access to the future EDEKA will also be created, which will improve the shopping opportunities in the city center.
Bahnhofstrasse therefore has the potential to develop into a more functional, modern and safer center. The city administration is aware of this and is already planning further work on Bahnhofstrasse and in the intersection area with Wilischstrasse for 2026. Wilischstrasse itself will also be expanded to the end of the EDEKA market, including an access road and a barrier-free footpath between Theaterplatz and Bahnhofstrasse.
The modernization to improve the quality of life in Annaberg-Buchholz will bring great joy overall and bring the city into the future with a breath of fresh air. Stay tuned for more construction progress updates!
