European Pottery Festival: Art and tradition in Annaberg-Buchholz!
The European Pottery Festival in Annaberg-Buchholz is just around the corner! From August 1st to 3rd, 2025, the city's historic pottery district will once again be transformed into a place full of art, culture and culinary delights. It is already the 8th time that the Altstadtfreunde Annaberg e.V. has organized this special festival together with the city and thus draws attention to the traditional pottery art of the region.
A look into the past shows: Between the 16th and 19th centuries, Annaberg was a true center for ceramic art. The famous Annaberg stoneware pieces are not only sought after, but are also exhibited in museums far beyond the borders of Saxony, such as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London or the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. These masterpieces of pottery art testify to the high quality and craftsmanship of the masters of the time, up to 58 of whom were working in the city at the same time.
A feast for all senses
The upcoming festival offers a varied program that gives visitors the opportunity to experience the diverse art of pottery up close. This not only includes market activity with numerous pottery stands from home and abroad, but also exhibition artistic performances and culinary delicacies that pamper the senses. By the way, a pottery exhibition with the theme “Life Cycles” in the clubhouse at Untere Badergasse 3 will also be part of the program.
A highlight will be the awarding of the pottery prize for outstanding work, which recognizes the artistic excellence of the participants. This festival not only promotes creative exchange among artists, but also mutual understanding and international understanding, in the spirit of a united Europe.
Support and participation
To organize the festival, the Old Town Friends are looking for photos or film footage from previous pottery festivals. These are needed for an exhibition, and the deadline for entries is July 6, 2025. In addition, the organizers are also urgently looking for volunteers who would like to contribute in the form of donation gates - the deadline for registration is July 13, 2025. Those interested can register by phone or email.
The European Pottery Festival in Annaberg-Buchholz not only reminds us of the eventful past of pottery, but also enlivens the old town and contributes to intercultural encounters in Europe.
