THE THE COMPLETION in the Neustadtforum: Hoyerswerda celebrates a new meeting place!
On Friday, June 13, 2025, the topping -out ceremony for the new Neustadtforum "Nikolai Ostrowski" was celebrated in Hoyerswerda. Mayor Torsten Ruban-Zeh opened the event, which attracted numerous guests, including District Administrator Udo Witschas, who put the function of the city in the foreground as a top center in the Bautzen district. The celebration was musically framed by various groups, including the choir "6k United" of the secondary school and the hip-hop-loving "Zerotwonine".
The historic location, the former youth club house, was completely gutted and receives a new, modern roof. The large hall is preserved as an event room, while a flat extension will offer sanitary, economic and storage rooms as well as a district café. The construction of a two-storey building, which is supposed to accommodate office and advisory rooms for the RAA (regional working group) and the DZA (German Center for Astrophysics), is also encouraging.

After completing the Neustadt Forum at Liselotte-Herrmann-Straße 1, the offer of open child and youth work will be available again. The forum should act as a central meeting place and thus contribute to strengthening the social cohesion in Hoyerswerda.
Another highlight of the project is the planned “science and future dome”, which is promoted as a cube-shaped building with a 12-meter-high dome for digital full dome projections. This innovative addition is made by Dr. Stefan Ohm from the DZA, who has a special football, designed with the Planet Venus, to Jens Leschner from Raa.

The total costs for the renovation and equipment amount to around 13 million euros, funded by the Kohleregion investment law. Thanks to this financial support, not only existing rooms can be renewed, but also new meeting places can be created that are accessible to all citizens. The completion of the Neustadtforum is planned until the end of 2026. During this time, the city of Hoyerswerda will take a significant step into the future by creating a child and family-friendly center that represents a place for education, encounter and social integration.
