Chemnitz presents a new type of town hall guide for children on June 26th!
On June 26th at 9 a.m., a very special project will be presented in the green salon of the town hall in Chemnitz: the new town hall guide for children. Mayor Sven Schulze will present the 36 -page publication that is aimed at children and young people. The illustrator David Füleki, winner of a creative competition, designed the guide with a lot of design and creativity, which was created together with two school classes: the fourth grade of the Annenschule primary school and the sixth grade of the Georgius-Agricola-Gymnasium in the school year 2024/2025.
The little discoverers can look forward to an exciting journey through the town hall. They accompany the town hall mouse and a lion and not only learn exciting things about the figures in the convertible hall or the bell in the high tower, but also about the way of working of the city council and the city administration. Important information about democratic participation for children was also taken into account. The guide will also contain puzzles, painting and error search images that provide additional fun.
participation and democracy for young citizens
The creation of the guides is part of the “Junge Rathaus” project, which is financed with around 15,000 euros from tax funds. In particular, the active participation of teachers: Inside, this project enriched: Many ideas came from the classes that helped to shape animals and other elements. Katrin Günther, the coordinator for the youth participation of the city of Chemnitz, leads the project and maintains the connection between children and the city administration.
This commitment to the young generation is not unique in Chemnitz. As part of the “Future Downtown” citizens' participation, experts and citizens have also introduced their ideas for redesigning the city center in Leoben: since 2019. Central content was recorded here in a master plan, which should be implemented in the coming years. Specific projects are already planned for 2023 and 2024, such as the redesign of the main square. These initiatives show how important it is to also participate in young people in urban topics.
children as a co -designer of their environment
How can you best include children and adolescents in municipal topics? The “Democracy in Children's Hand” program shows some approaches how children can actively help shape. With the help of a toolbox for children's participation, municipalities are supported to develop methods for successful participation, be it through youth juries or simply through direct integration into projects. This should not only show the importance of their voice in mind, but also promote their self -efficacy.
In order to actively shape the living environment of the children and implement their ideas, mayors need support and resources inside. The exchange of experiences and recommendations for action shows that considering the concerns of young people plays a fundamental role in order to shape a future -oriented local politics. These motivations and engagements can be found not only in Chemnitz, but in numerous municipalities that are also devoted to children's participation.
7500 copies of the new guides are available for all children and adolescents in Chemnitz, which will be available in the town hall and as a class set at every school of Chemnitz. Another step to bring the adolescents into the focus of urban politics!
