A significant step for culture in Chemnitz: On August 22, 2025, the final documentation for the evaluation of the cultural strategy was published. In a comprehensive process that spanned 2023 and 2024, numerous cultural workers, cultural politicians and experts worked together to put the existing strategy through its paces. The aim was to evaluate the current status of the cultural strategy, which applies until 2030, and adapt it if necessary.
The documentation, which was created under the leadership of the cultural department of the city of Chemnitz, highlights various aspects. For example, the implementation status of the defined measures is analyzed and possible clarifications are highlighted. Another central point is the integration of the topics surrounding the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 and the results of a comprehensive survey of cultural institutions carried out by Chemnitz University of Technology.
The documentation is now available and can be viewed on the websites www.chemnitz.de/kulturstrategie and www.chemnitz.de/broschueren be downloaded. An English version of the brochure will also be published soon.
A look into the future
The cultural strategy of the city of Chemnitz was approved by the city council on January 30, 2019 and is valid until 2030. This evaluation not only shows the willingness to adapt, but also that Chemnitz is making great strides towards the challenges and opportunities as Capital of Culture in 2025. “A good hand has been demonstrated; the evaluation, which is carried out at least once during the program period, will help us to set the right accents,” said those responsible.
The recommendations for action, which are based on a cultural strategy summary, will shape the city's cultural landscape in a future-oriented manner. The city of Chemnitz shows that it relies on strong cohesion and committed participation in the cultural sector. This is of great importance not only for those working in culture, but for the entire population.
So what can we expect from these developments? There is definitely still a lot of exciting projects and initiatives in the pipeline - Chemnitz has set itself the goal of not only promoting culture, but also actively living and experiencing it. All eyes are now on the future and how the city will continue to develop its cultural identity.
