Fairytale film variety: FabulixFestival starts in Annaberg-Buchholz!

The anticipation is palpable in Annaberg-Buchholz, because the 4th International Fairy Tale Film Festival fabulix® will take place from August 20th to 24th, 2025. The charming town in the Ore Mountains is becoming a magnet for film enthusiasts and families. This year, visitors can look forward to a total of 85 screenings of 37 films from 17 countries. The festival motto “Of foreign lands, kingdoms and magical worlds” promises a magical journey for young and old. As annaberg-buchholz.de reports, one of this year's highlights is expected to be the German premiere of the Czech remake "Zlatovláska - Princess Goldhair", which will be properly celebrated on August 20th.

A very special event is also on the program for August 22nd: The gala concert “Magic of a Night” will take place at 7:00 p.m. on the Annaberg market square. This will be festively decorated as an “Enchanted Castle”, and the Erzgebirgische Philharmonie Aue under the direction of Maximilian Haberstock will musically enchant visitors. Variety of films for every age group

The fabulix® Festival offers a cinematic experience for everyone. For little film lovers, there are, among other things, the adventures of “Little Aladdin and the Magic Carpet” and “Peterchen’s Journey to the Moon”. “The Robber Hotzenplotz” and “Raya and the Last Dragon” will also be shown on the big screen. Over 60,000 visitors have already experienced the various films since 2017, and the organizers are expecting lively interest again this year. This year's competition includes 27 films from which the audience can choose their favorite film. Voting takes place by Sunday, 12:00 p.m., at the castle portal or conveniently online, as sachsen-tourismus.de adds.

There is also a special focus this year on inclusion. The film “When a Star Fell from Heaven” is offered with audio description, and “The Three Golden Ducats” is equipped with a DGS audio track. Visitors can also use the barrier-free access to the market square and the mountain church of St. Marien.

A colorful supporting program for all the senses

However, films are not the only thing the festival has to offer: to accompany the film screenings there will be a costume exhibition, which will be opened by Pavel Trávníček on August 21st. Original costumes from popular fairy tale classics can be admired here, along with interactive events and personal meetings with actors and directors. One-hour discussions, photo and autograph opportunities round off the offer.

If you would like to enjoy the atmosphere of the old town as part of the festival, you will find a summer cinema on the market square and the old town terrace with classic film screenings such as “The Last Unicorn” and “The Story of Little Muck”. Another highlight awaits guests at the closing event on August 24th, where the audience's favorite film will be crowned.
