• Seven keys on a gray band "VBH", including four colorful keys with red, yellow, purple and green caps as well as a trailer "bicycle"

If you have lost something, take a look at the list quickly! Because the legal retention period for these lost property is six months. Specifically, this means that citizens who rediscover their lost treasures should report to the citizens' office by February 28, 2026 at the latest. After the deadline, the objects can be auctioned - with the exception of the keys that have special regulations.

How long do funds stay in the lost property office?

General, the retention period for lost property in Germany is also six months from the report of the find. This applies if the owner does not report or cannot be determined. To ensure that nothing is lost, lost property must remain in the lost property office for at least four weeks. It is also interesting to know that the finder is entitled to ownership if the matter is not picked up after the deadline.
