New Saxon Monastery Book: Focus on historical treasures!

On August 29, 2025, a major event will be celebrated in the Kamenz monastery church: the presentation of the Saxon Monastery Book, a project that has taken the last decade and a half. Prof. Dr. Enno Bünz leads this project, in which well-known institutions such as the Professorship for Saxon and Comparative Regional History at the University of Leipzig and the Institute for Saxon History and Folklore (ISGV) in Dresden are involved. A first presentation to the public took place in May 2025, which was very well received kamenz.de reported.

The Saxon Monastery Book is considered a work of the century and offers a comprehensive representation of 80 monasteries, monasteries and monasteries in Saxony up to the Reformation. This first comprehensive presentation covers both existing and historical medieval foundations. The book is not just a reference work, but was designed as a manual that follows a uniform editing scheme univerlag-leipzig.de.

What can readers expect from this magnificent work? The focus is on the history, architectural and art history as well as archeology and library history of the spiritual institutions. The wealth of information is underpinned by the expertise of 80 experts who wrote the monastery articles. Partial volumes in detail

The Saxon Monastery Book is divided into several volumes:

  • Teilband 1: Klöster, Stifte und Kommenden in Städten wie Adorf, Alten Dresden, Bautzen und Zwickau.
  • Teilband 2: Behandelt Einrichtungen in Kamenz, Leipzig und Königstein.
  • Teilband 3: Umfasst Klöster in Zittau, Wurzen und Pirna.
