Mayor election in Kamenz: This is how the vote runs!
Today, on August 22, 2025, there are exciting news from the large district town of Kamenz. The mayor election is scheduled for September 28, 2025 and preparations are in full swing. The announcement of this election was already published in Official Journal No. 23/2025 on June 7, 2025. As of now, the citizens are invited to submit their election proposals to run for this important position, as kamenz.de.
The voters in Kamenz are particularly in demand, because anyone who has reached the age of 18 can vote. This applies not only to Germans, but also to EU citizens who have been living in the city for at least three months. So who can apply for the office of mayor? The most important thing is to meet the general personal requirements for the civil servant relationship. An exciting race is imminent!
The election process at an overview
The mayor has a central role in the city of Kamenz, because she is not only the chair of the local council, but also head of the municipal administration. The choice itself is a direct civil right and takes place in general, directly, free, equal and secret. The voters only have one vote, and if there is no absolute majority in the first round, a second ballot follows on October 26, 2025, as it is explained in the elections in Saxony.
But what happens if no result is achieved in the second ballot? It will be exciting! Here the candidate wins with the most votes, if there is a tie, the lot decides. This is one of the special features of the Saxon municipal code, which in the version of March 9, 2018, most recently changed on May 29, 2024, defines the legal framework for such elections.
selectability and election assistant
In the case of selectability, some criteria must be observed. People over the age of 65 are not eligible for the office of a full -time mayor. Those who have already been affected or convicted of intentional acts are also excluded. This ensures that only the most suitable candidates start to steer the city's fortunes.
In addition, there is also the possibility to report as an election worker. Anyone who comes from Kamenz and is entitled to vote can make a valuable contribution to carrying out the election. Interested parties can simply report to the city, on 03578/379 154 or by email to wahlhelfer@stadt.kamenz.de.
For many citizens, local elections are a matter close to the heart, since they are often directly shaped by local topics. Anyone who sets their cross contributes to the design of their homeland. These elections are a wonderful opportunity to collect the voice together and shape what happens in your own city. The Federal Center for Political Education emphasizes that these elections often have lower participations as state or federal elections, which shows how important every single voice is.
We will of course keep you up to date on all developments related to the mayor election on September 28, 2025. A good hand about the election and good luck to the future candidates!
