Art, culture and conversations: Chemnitz celebrates the Behungen Festival!

There are exciting events surrounding the Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 that will make the city a center for art and creativity in the coming days. Mayor Sven Schulze and Mayor Knut Kunze are at the forefront of a program that is guaranteed to cause a stir.

A public consultation will take place in the mayor's office in the town hall on Thursday, July 17th at 4 p.m. Afterwards, at 6 p.m., Mayor Knut Kunze will open the vernissage of the exhibition “City on the River - City in the River” in the Garage Campus, Zwickauer Straße 164. Here, art can be experienced and visitors can look forward to deeper insights into the relationship between the city and its river, such as chemnitz.de reports.

Art festival visits

A highlight of the art offering is the Bebehungen art festival, which will be ceremoniously opened on Friday, July 18th at 7 p.m. in the former Chemnitz-Nord thermal power plant. Andrea Pier, the commercial director of the Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH, will also give a welcoming speech on this occasion. The festival promises a diverse program that goes beyond the exhibition and offers exciting formats with concerts, readings and performances, as can be read on begehungen-festival.de.

In addition to the exhibition, the festival also offers an attractive supporting program: live concerts with bands such as Bikini Beach and Kochkraft by KMA on July 19th at 7 p.m. and Mina Richman on July 20th at 5 p.m. are on the program. In addition, visitors can take part in workshops that offer exciting creative approaches, for example on the topic of “archiving and personal narratives” or the reuse of industrial by-products. However, these workshops are only available to a limited number of participants and require advance registration.

Variety of events

The festival goes beyond music. Performances such as “Architecture As Instrument” on July 18th and the documentary theater “Climate Monologues” on August 15th are proposed, which address current social issues. There is also a highlight for younger festival visitors: “Sounds of the Future” for children aged 7 to 12 on August 3rd invites them to discover sound possibilities made from reused materials.

The wide range of events shows that Chemnitz not only serves as an art venue, but also as a place for creative exchange. The entire program is characterized by dialogue and interaction between art, city and society, which can further strengthen Chemnitz's reputation as a cultural capital.

Those interested should find out about the individual program items in good time and, if necessary, take advantage of tickets or registrations. Detailed information can also be found at mediarep.org.

Be there and experience how Chemnitz keeps up with the times and flourishes culturally!
