Chemnitz conquers the Highfield Festival: Young talents welcome!
What makes Chemnitz so exciting? This question certainly arose at the Highfield Festival, which was in full bloom from August 15th to 17th, 2025. The city of Chemnitz has built up a doctoral level here with the aim of winning the young generation for itself and presenting it as a place worth living in for study and leisure. The festival, one of the largest indie rock festivals in Germany, offered the perfect stage to show the charm of the city and inspire young people.
partner of the city of Chemnitz for this initiative include the Technical University of Chemnitz and the Culture Capital of Europe Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH. "The atmosphere here is optimal to get in touch with young people," said Silvana Bergk, head of the Economics division of the City of Chemnitz.
interactive experience
The focus of the Chemnitz presentation is a garage inspired by the #3000 garages. Around this garage, an inviting chill area was created with over 50 square meters, which is equipped with cozy seating and interactive offers such as a wheel of fortune and a glitter station. The festival visitors also invite craft offers and tape art to participate.
In addition, informative content about life and study in Chemnitz is presented on a large screen. "We want the young people to see how pleasant it is in our city," added Prof. Dr. Anja Strobel from the TU Chemnitz, which highlighted the diverse courses and excellent conditions for students.
tourism and future prospects
The Tourismus Association Chemnitz Zwickau Region was also represented, and Marika Fischer, the managing director, emphasized the importance of the event for the tourist marketing of the region. "We have to break new ground to win young people for our city," she emphasized, and this presentation is a first step in the right direction.
In the context of the Cultural Capital year 2025, Chemnitz plans to further expand their speeches to young people and to find creative solutions in order to position the city as an attractive place to live and study. The actions at the Highfield Festival are only the beginning.
I think the Chemnitzer definitely showed a good hand for addressing the young generation and this first step can only be considered promising.
