New cultivation at the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff-Gymnasium: solemn opening!
On Friday, August 29, the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff-Gymnasium in Chemnitz will enter the next era of his existence with a solemn act. The opening of the new extension, which begins at 1 p.m., is under the patronage of Mayor Sven Schulze, Mayor Ralph Burghart and the designated mayor Thomas Kütter. There is already a press tour for all media representatives at 12 noon, whereby the meeting point is located on the new cafeteria in Hohe Strasse 35.
Thanks to the extension building, the school is not only enriched by six new classrooms on the upper floor, but also the cafeteria, which is located on the ground floor, is being redesigned here. This cafeteria offers space for 194 people and can even record up to 350 guests for events. In addition, two special specialist rooms for chemistry and biology are created that are put into operation after the equipment.
sustainability and modern architecture
The extension, in solid construction with a harmonious design, fits perfectly into the listed stock of the school. Equipped with wood-aluminum windows and a leaked fiber-fiber concrete facade, it is also important for sustainability. The building meets the requirements of the building energy law and is equipped with a mechanical ventilation system and photovoltaic modules. The planning strives for a sustainability certification according to DGNB.
investment in education
With investment costs of around 11.3 million euros, this expansion is a smooth hit in the budget. Of these, around 3.2 million euros come from funding from the Saxon Austro -Baubank (SAB), whose allocation notice is now available. This financial support was of great importance, since initial delays threatened to put the construction work on hold due to outstanding notices. In particular, the forecast of an increase to 754 students in the school year 2024/25 was underlined. 736 students are currently visiting the high school, which according to the student report is already reaching its capacity limits.
A construction decision for the cultivation and replacement of the canteen was already taken in February 2023. After the preparatory measures that were completed in June 2023, the shell began in August 2024. The redesign of the open spaces that the school surrounds will continue until autumn. Even if it was necessary to organize lessons for high school students in the vocational school rooms in Wielandstrasse, the anticipation for the new premises and the improved conditions is great.
A look at the future shows how important school infrastructure is in times of growing school numbers. The extension at the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff-Gymnasium is a step in the right direction and shows how good planning and financial support can be secured for the coming generations.
